Star Wars revolutionized the Cinema industry, starting with sound. Cinemas already had a left, center, right and surround sound channels at this time. But there were two more channels, one between the left and center and one between the right and center.

These two channels become obsolete because of the affect it had on the sounds was treciourous. In this event these two channels become what is know as the LFE channel, or Low Frequency Emission or as you commonly know it as the sub-woofer channel.
